A whimsical hand-built ceramic sculpture of a 1908 Packard touring car, made in Italy in the mid-20th century. Part of a charming genre of Italian gift-shop and tourist ceramics depicting antique automobiles, this piece was assembled by hand, piece by piece, then hand-painted in glossy red, black, and yellow glaze — right down to the tufted cream upholstery, folding canopy top, and brass-tone horn.
The loose, expressive proportions and slightly surreal, oversized details are intentional — these were never meant to be precise scale models, but playful folk-art interpretations of veteran-era cars, prized today for their handmade character. The underside is hand-inscribed "PACKARD (1908) ITALY," typical of the small ceramic workshops that produced this style of novelty automotive decor.
A fun conversation piece for collectors of automobilia, mid-century Italian ceramics, or outsider/folk art. Measures 7.5" long x 5" high x 4" wide.
Condition: vintage, with typical light wear from age; please review photos closely. One of a kind — no two were painted quite the same.
